Current Buildings

In the late 1980s the board of management envisaged re-development of the school and initiated the process.

Fiona Christeller, as architect, designed the new buildings with the emphasis on creating a village of contemporary buildings and open spaces that reflect the special character of the school and the importance given to the formative influences of architecture and aesthetics.   Within the very tight constraints of the site, the brief included retaining the existing trees and the introduction of strong colour, both indoors and outdoors, to give balance to the clear Hawke’s Bay environment.

Campus Building

The new school buildings (the Edwin Ayre building, the Katherine Laing building, the Gymnasium, Administration Block, and Auditorium) were built between 1991 and 1998 under the project management of the late Pat Wahl.
