International Students

Student Camp - Climbing DayIntroduction

Taikura Rudolf Steiner School warmly welcomes International Students to our school.

The main intake is into Classes 9, 10 and 11 and as places are limited, it is strongly recommended that International Students apply to the School as early as possible.

International Students stay for two terms and are expected to arrive and leave during our school holidays. Having travelled so far to get to New Zealand, many International Students want to travel the country, and, why not? New Zealand is beautiful and easy to travel around, however this does need to be done in the School holidays. Please extend the visit time so that travel takes place before and after your time at Taikura Rudolof Steiner School, or between terms.

All students wishing to attend Taikura Rudolf Steiner School must stay in a school-approved homestay, or with a family designated by their parents.

Term Dates 2010

Term 1 Tuesday 2 February – Thursday 1 April
Term 2 Monday 19 April – Thursday 1 July
Term 3 Monday 19 July –Friday 24 September
Term 4 Monday 11 October – Wednesday 15 December

Types of Stay

Class Field Trip

There are two ways in which an International Student can attend our school:

1 As a fee-paying student: You will pay NZ$2,950 per term in 2010 (this includes disbursement fees such as stationery, writing utensils, field trips etc) plus NZ$120 administration fee for the host family co-ordinator plus NZ$200 board per week to the host family. (Fees are subject to change annually). There may be an additional fee for school camps.

2 As an exchange student: You will stay with a family in our school community and someone from that family will exchange with you. Each student will continue to pay school fees to their own school while overseas and the maximum time between exchanges will be two years. Generally, school costs are covered; however, you will have to contribute to a school camp.

Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr – FSJ

Taikura Rudolf Steiner School does not offer places for people wanting to do their voluntary service (Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr – FSJ). We have tried to communicate this to the Freunde der Erziehungskunst, but as the list of schools is on www.waldorfschule.de there is not much we can do about it. We suggest that you contact Hohepa Hawke’s Bay, which is a residential community for people in need of special care. You can email them on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
